The Great Grandparents

Nikolaus Schramm born 20 Sept 1844, married 29 June 1866 in "Broutigam, Braut" to Regina Barth born June 1847.  A note in the family Bible says she was born Jewish but converted to Catholic to marry.

Comments:

One of the Schramm's was a musician and a conductor of Austria-Hungry National Army Band, who lived in Vienese.  He was instrumental in helping the families to immigrate to US.

In the family is a Anton Zuber and a Regina Barth.

My In Laws

Ignatz Zuber & Catherine Zimmermann

They married in Mansfield, Ohio.  They were cousins and had to get special permission from the Catholic Church to marry.

Ignatz's parents were Franz Zuber and Margaretha Schramm.

Catherine's parents were Joseph Zimmerman and Elizabeth Zuber.  Elizabeth 's parents were Anton Zuber and wife Margaretha.  Elizabeth had 2 brothers Anton Jr. and Peter all immigrated to US.

What I have learned about the family -

  • Franz Zuber m. Margaretha Zeitvogel - children:  Kathi, Janos, Ferencz
2nd m. Margaretha Schramm - children Ignatz, Suzanna, Margaret
This family came to US and settled in Detroit.  The arrived in the US 9 June, last residence listed on their manifest was Maslak.
  • Margaretha Schramm's parents were Nikolaus Schramm [b. 20 Sept 1844] and Regina Barth [b. June 1847], they were married 29 June 1866 in "Broutigam, Braut."  A note in the family Bible reads Regina was born Jewish but converted to Catholicism to marry.  One Schramm family member who lived in Viennese member was a musician, who was a conductor of Austria-Hungry National Army Band.  He was instrumental is helping the families to immigrate to US.
  • Joseph Zimmerman m. Elizabeth Zuber
children Elizabeth, Fabian, Eva, Margaret, Anna, Catherine Children born in US. Joseph, Peter.
This family came to US and settled in Mansfield, Ohio.
These 2 families were related and kept in touch with each other.  My father-in-law Ignatz went by the name I. Charles Zuber.  He came to Mansfield with a relative to visit Catherine's father Joseph and got to know her.  Came back on numerous occasions and eventually they fell in love. They lived in Detroit for a number of years before moving back to Mansfield, Ohio.

My mother-in-law was Catherine Zimmerman who married Ignatz Zuber in Mansfield, Ohio.  They were cousins and had to get special permission from the Catholic Church to marry.  Catherine's parents were Joseph Zimmerman and Elizabeth Zuber.  Elizabeth 's parents were Anton Zuber and wife Margaretha.  Elizabeth had 2 brothers Anton Jr. and Peter all immigrated to US.   As I understand it Joseph Zimmerman had a couple of sisters but the 3 children were orphaned and moved around living with different relatives.
