This has been very interesting. My father is Peter Schadek of Mansfield, Ohio and I had no idea about the connection to Hungary. I was always told I was German.

I'm just beginning to learn about the Banat Region where at least 3 of my 4 grandparents were from and probably the 4th as well. Steve Them was my maternal grandfather and was from Fibisch. My maternal grandmother, Anna Letang Them was born in Lefor, North Dakota. I visited her mother's grave--my great grandmother, Magadelena Meyer Letang in 1976. My paternal grandmother, Louise (Luzjda on her ship's record) Radojcsics Miller, was born in Pancevo and my paternal grandfather Michael Miller was born in Franzfeld. They came to America in either 1921 or 1922. I have all their ship's records, but I recently moved and they're all packed away. In any case, I'm grateful to have found this resource and learn more about the Banat region and exactly where it was my ancestors came from. They themselves were often confused by exactly what country (in modern terms) they were from since apparently boundaries changed often.

By chance I found this website and was glad to see so many pictures of Fibis. My Dad is from Fibis and my Grandpa still lives there. You even have a picture of him on your site! :)
So now I would like to know if you've got ancestors from Fibis, too. Or why you're so interested in it.
We've got a book about Fibis with lots of pictures and stories in it. Unfortunately it's in german. But if you're interested you can e-mail me your adress and we send you a copy of it.
I look forward to hearing from you soon,
Astrid Marmann
