All those people picked out for deportation meet at Triebswetter railway station under military guard. The photographer Hans Hehn took this picture whilst hiding in the attic of his house. It is one of those rare photos which captures the actual moment of the deportation.

The last remaining house in Fundata built of tamped earth and covered in thatch during the time of the deportation, and which is still inhabited today (2001).

As a young girl, Hedwig Gilde used to run after these prickly balls of thistles which the wind would blow across the fields during autumn. This once much sought-after source of heating material is only found seldom these days.
