in Palanka, Austria-Hungary]. Survived by wife,
Anna Drobnek; son, George A. Abel, of Trenton;

both of Trenton; brother, Joseph Abel, of
Reading, PA and several nieces and nephews.

My father Johann (Hans) Abt
passed away 10 years ago
today. He was born on
September 25th, 1927 in
Semelzi, Croatia; married
Maria Hoffmann in Lager Haid,
Austria on September 9th,
1951. Hans immigrated to the
United States in August of
1955, where he settled his
family in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin.
I was their only child born
in Austria, they had 5 more
children after moving to the
US; Josef, John, Maria,
Stefan and Heidi. My father
was a member of the
Milwaukee Donauschwaben for
many years. Some of the
list members may have met
him and remember him.
He was a wonderful father
and grandfather, and we all
miss him. But he left us
with many good memories; one
of my favorite is of him in
his white apron and cap
roasting spanferkel. He
loved to do this, whether it
was at home, at the club, or
at Germanfest. My brothers
still carry on that
tradition, Joe with the
Cincinnati DS club, and
Hansi and Stefi for family
and friends in Milwaukee.
He made and smoked Hungarian
bratwurst which he
generously shared with
everyone that asked, the
recipe remains in our family
and my three brothers have
made sausage making an
annual event.
So if you are pouring
yourself a stampfel of
schnaps today (as was his
custom), make a toast to my
dad. My children and I
certainly will when we get
together later today to
celebrate the life of our
Tati and Ota.

2012, after
battling
multiple
myeloma. In her
final days,
Maria age 79,
was surrounded
by her family
and friends.
Maria was born
in Kechinci,
Croatia on
December 7,
1932. Forced
from her home in
Yugoslavia
during World War
II. She and her
family escaped
to Austria,
where they lived
for 10 years.
She immigrated
to the United
States in 1955.
Maria was the
devoted wife of
Johann Abt, who
preceded her in
death, and the
beloved mother
of six children
Hermi (Michael)
Linz, Sepp
(Rose) Abt,
Hansi (Claudia)
Abt, Maria (Bo)
Lueck, Stefan
Abt, and Heidi
(Doug) Kirchberg,
the loving
grandmother of
15 grandchildren
and 18
great-grandchildren.
She is survived
by her sister
Rose (Johann)
Dydyn, brother
Peter (Marty)
Hoffmann, and
cousin Katharina
Heide.
Throughout her
fight with
cancer and
various related
complications,
she never lost
hope or courage.
Her generous and
loving spirit
touched many and
will live on
through family
and friends.
Maria was a
long-time member
of the Milwaukee
Donauschwaben,
organizer of the
Donauschwaben
cultural exhibit
at Holiday Folk
Fair and
Germanfest, past
director of the
Donauschwaben
Frauengruppe and
leader of the
Donauschwaben
Youth Group, a
member of St.
Matthias Parish,
and survivor of
the Ethnic
German Genocide
in the former
Yugoslavia.
Memorial gifts

Cancer Society.

ANNASENZ
- John J. Annasenz 81 of Hamilton passed away Friday October
11, 2019. Mr. Annasenz was born in Palanka, Yugoslavia and
has been an area resident most of his life. He is retired
from General Motors. He is a United States Army Veteran. A
founding member of the German American Society and a member
of the Donauschwaben Club in Yardville. Son of the late
Jakob and Magdalena (Schoen) Annasenz. Brother of the late
Nikolaus Annasenz and his wife Rita. Husband of the late
Elvira Annasenz. Surviving are his daughter and son in law
Marie and Sean Gorman of Yardville. His son John J. Annasenz
of Columbus. Grandchildren Kyle Annasenz, Kelsey Annasenz,
Christina, Elizabeth and Shane Gorman. Funeral Mass will be
celebrated 9:30am Wednesday at St. Raphael Church, 3500
South Broad St. Hamilton. Interment will be in Our Lady of
Lourdes Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday 6:00 – 8:00pm at
Knott's Colonial Funeral Home, 2946 South Broad St .

ANTON
– Jakob Anton of Ridgewood died on February 17, 2008 at the age
of 93. A native of Periamosch, Romania, he was the beloved
husband of Margareta, devoted father of Margaret Damm and John
Anton; also survived by two grandchildren. Mass of Christian
Burial was offered at St. Matthias Church followed by interment
in Linden Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Morton
Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood.

ANTONI
- Katharina Antoni of Ridgewood died on
October 9, 2001 at the age of 63. A native of Sekitsch,
Yugoslavia, she was the devoted mother of Peter Antoni, dear
sister of Helene Karb, Gerlinde Losch. She was a member of
Emmaus Lutheran Church, Mary Martha Guild. Services were held at
the Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue,
Ridgewood, officiated by Reverend John Stoudt, followed by
