Village of

Billed

in Banat

The Church

As in all villages of the Theresia's settlement in Billed only Catholics were settled. These were cared for at first of the parish Neubeschenowa, until Billed received its own parish on 9 September 1766. First priest of Billed was Gabriel of farm villages, first minister was Paul Herics. The service took place however under very modest conditions, first in a hut from boards, later in the class room in a Kolonistenhaus. In the year 1775 with the building of our church from bricks after plans from the head council, the church was blessed in September 1777 St.Michael. Fifty years later the church had grown over 3.000 inhabitants  At the expense of the reason and patronage gentleman, the bishop von Agram, our church was extended in the year 1833 by the cultivation of the side ships, also the tower was increased, the church received its current form. In the inspection reports of the Csanader of bishops the church and the church life of the municipality are described. Thus we experience from the inspection report of bishop Lonovics from the year 1837 over the Billeder church people the following: Pfarrvolk is purely German, and with exception a catholic civil servants and servants and some Jews, are all catholic religion... The Catholics consider the requirements of God and the church, in the attendance of the lectures are somewhat leave them... They consider the celebrations, the children send it gladly to the school. They consider the annual Osterpflicht exactly... The Kirchweihfest is celebrated with exemplary Devotation. A good certification of the Billeder from the 19. Century.
