Origin of the Name Bencsek: In a letter to Charles Rice, Jakob Andor of Deutschbentschek wrote that the village was named after a Hungarian baron who once owned most of the land in the area.
 
 

Location: Deutschbentschek is know today as Bencecu de Sus.  Formerly in the Hapsburg Empire, it became part of Hungary in 1860.  Since 1920, Deutschbentschek has been part of Romania.
