Peter Kauten, my father, changed his birth name from Desideriu, (the spelling I'm unsure of) to his middle name, Peter, when he came to America. We live in Racine Wisconsin. But I know that one of my fathers Uncles and a Aunt came before my father in America to live.

My grandfather Joseph Kauten was born in 1895; the youngest of eight children.  My great grandfather was Francais/Nicholas Kauten, who had a farm near Timisoara.

I have traveled to Romania twice when I was young. I still have two aunts there and cousins. Some cousins have moved back to Germany.  My family moved to Caransebes in Banat, and some still live there.

I will talk to my father about the part of Timisoara were he was from. I like you're website I am very proud of my heritage. I was very impressed how hard working and tightly knit the German community was and still is in Romania. I am full German and proud to say it.

Our roots are from the Lorraine region which is now France, and emigrated to Banat in the late 1600s to early 1700's, but was then Germany.

I also know that one of my Great Uncles also Nickolas Kauten moved here in 1930s or so to America. I also had a great aunt who moved here. The problem is the families were upset with each other so that's why I am trying to figure out were they are. I am unsure if they even know my father lives here.
