Grandpa, Vilmos Böhm b. June 26, 1884 in Fehértemplom, Hungary to Anton Wollek and Maria Sojmo.   I have been told me Vilmos was raised by his Uncle Peter Böhm & Aunt Anna Wollek.  I don't know if he was officially adopted or if he just changed his name.  After he came to Cincinnati he did change his name to William Boehm, where he died June 1947.   Grandpa Vilmos 'was' Catholic, but left the church.  Grandma was Calvinist and baptized in the Calvinist church.

My Uncle Willi recalls Grandpa Vilmos served in the Austro-Hungarian Army and he was a NCO in a horse-drawn artillery unit, stationed in Széged, Hungary.  Willi said Grandpa Vilmos and Uncle Paul Repasy (yep, same one as Debbie's grandfather lived with) talked about Pécs, Arád, Széged and Témésvár.   Pál Répásy was married to my great aunt, Eszter Bondár.  Because of the Répásy/Katzler connection, Debbie Burns thinks we might be related since families seemed to stick together.

Willi said Grandpa Vilmos owned his own cabinet making shop located at 2009 Elm St., Cincinnati, until abt 1946, when he sold it.  He was a member of the Herwegh Manner Choir, a singing society and was the Financial Secretary of the Working Men's Sick and Death Benefit, an insurance group.  He was a route salesman for the Wetterer Brewery in Cinn.   He was naturalized March 16, 1915 in Cinti.  That's all I know about him.

Grandpa, Vilmos Böhm married Márie (nee) Bondár on 7 Apr 7, 1907 in Fehértemplom.  They immigrated to the America in May 1907.

Their children were:

  • William John Boehm; b. 12/24/1910; Cinti.  d. 3/6/1994, Bradenton, Fl.

  • Wilma Ann Boehm; b. 4/7/1912; Cinti.  d. 5/5/1988 in Wichita, Ks.  (this is my mother)

  • Edward Boehm; b. 9/8/1913; Cinti.  d. 9/27/1979, Cinti.

  • Margaret Boehm; b. 12/29/1914; Cinti.  d. 4/28/1990 in Bethel, Oh.

  • Arthur V. Boehm; b.  2/28/ 1916; Cinti.  d. 6/25/1997 in Fayette, Al.

  • Albert F. Boehm; b. 12/2/1918; Cinti.  d. 5/8/1988 in Cinti.  (3 days after my mother died)

  • Emma J. Boehm; b. 8/4/1919; Cinti.  Still living in Norwood, Oh.

Grandpa's parents:

Anton Wollek: b. 1848 d. 2/29/1928; buried in Oravita, Romania

Maria Sojmo:  b. 1849 d. 7/19/1924; buried in Oravita, Romania (both at Roman Katholic cemetery)

Their children:

  • William Boehm

  • Karl Wollek (m. Ottilia Schuch)

  • Unknown Wollek (married to my grandmother, died of TB and then she married my grandfather)

  • Franz Peternel (m. Antonia Holub)

  • Anton had a sister named Maria Wollek .  I am assuming the Anna Wollek that raised my grandfather is related to him in some way, but I don't know.

I have the death certificate for Anton Wollek/Maria Sojmo; Julianna (nee Nagy) Bondár, her son Gábor Bondár.

My grandmother was Marie (nee Bondár) Boehm.  I have her baptismal certificate from Békés and the marriage certificate from Fehértemplom.

One of the ladies on the Yahoo Ohio Genealogy Group located a 1920 US Census for Grandpa spelled Beohm, of German/Hung. origin.  Listed also was his wife and all their children.

I have a ancestry file at the LDS site, under Bondar, without the umlauts.  You will see Eszter or first followed by the rest of the family.  I believe it's under the Pedigree file.
