ICE CREAM FEAST
Hungarian Boys Entertained by Lexington the Ladies.
They have a great time.
The Daily Leader, Lexington, KY. July 23, 1899

The Hungarian Band boys had an ice cream feast given them after the concert Saturday afternoon. Through the kindness of several Lexington ladies who took an interest in the little tots a table was spread under the big shade trees in the read of Young People's Hall at Woodland Park and on it were placed all kinds of tempting delicacies. After the concert was over and the grounds had been cleared of the crown the little soldier-like musicians, sturdy and with measured step, marched at the command of their leader, Prof. Schilzonyi from the hotel on the grounds to the spot where the refreshments were waiting.

Lining up on long benches they presented a pretty sight with their red caps and blue blouse uniforms.

Japanese napkins were distributed around. The ice cream saucers and all the cake they could eat was given them in their laps. The musicians set to with a vim, and enjoyed the feast to the greatest extent.

After the repast, the boys were put through one of their characteristic drills which lasted about fifteen minutes, and were then dismissed. The entertainment of the youngsters began at 4:30 p.m. and lasted until past 5.

The ladies who served the refreshments were Madame Buttel, Mrs. H.B. Clay, Mrs. F.A. Harrison and Misses Lizzie Boen, Olga Buttel, Mary Campbell, Margaret Thornton, Marion Worley and Mina Goodloe.

Mr. R. Walters, a native of Austria and a talented musician, now a resident of Lexington, was present and on behalf of the leader and the boys thanked the ladies for their hospitality. Prof. Schilzonyi made the best use of his limited amount of English to do the same, and Mr. Walter kindly helped him over the rough places.

When the Hungarian boys first tackled ice cream in this country they were not used to it, but it didn't take long for them to make friends with the delicious dish, and now they are very fond of it, and willing to have their plates passed even the second and third time.
