1728 Conscription

This document listed the farmers who owned taxable land. The record for Mucsi indicated that these sixty-four farmers were Germans and that they were free peasants who maintained the right to migrate. This land census was found in Vol. 6 of Processus Hogyesiensis on FHL microfilm #1729820. The record started with this paragraph written in Latin.

“The property of Mucsi was populated seven years ago by German settlers continuously until 1725. They were allowed three years free of taxation. After that, they were allowed six years free of taxes and given the right of hereditary succession, which was granted by the most excellent Lord Claudius Florimundus during a meeting at which it was ratified.”

Reference to the 1728 Conscription is also found in Mutsching/Mucsi: Geschichte und Gesselschaft einer ehemaligen fuldischen Gemeinde in Ungarn by Wendelin Hambuch, (Tankönyvkiadó, Budapest, 1988), 61-62. The text is in German, but the names of the farmers are clearly spelled out, whereas the Latin record was handwritten and more difficult to read.
