1767 Urbarium
This urbarium (land census record) was dated 21 June 1767. It was located on
FHL microfilm #1529895. The names are in order reading down each column across
the page. Translation assistance by Tom Herget and Stacey Kirsch.
The first group in the record consisted of ninety-five men who were listed as
coloni. These farmers were free peasants who did not have feudal
obligations to the landowner. Typically, they had a house, kitchen garden, and
sufficient land to support a large family.

The next group of thirty-two men were the inquilini. They were the lesser
peasants, and they had both a house and a kitchen garden. But their farmland was
too small to support a family, so they had to work as "share croppers"
on the land for others

The final thirty-nine men on the land census were designated the subinquilini.
The lowest category of peasants, they did not have their own house but had a
hearth for their family in the house of another peasant. Essentially, they were
farm laborers.
