1828 Census
The feudal land tenancy census records of Hungary define
the goods and services that a serf was obligated to give to the feudal lord.
Typically, they include the names of landowners and serfs. This census of individuals owning taxable property
was conducted throughout Hungary in 1828. Since it listed only the property
owners, it does not contain every village resident. The head of each
household was listed, without detail as to age or other personal data. The
census is hand-written in Latin on pre-printed forms. The columns recorded such
items as the number of meadows and vineyards, large and small domestic animals
such as cows, horses and sheep, and other property holdings.
The actual census records reside in the National Archives
of Hungary. The entire census was microfilmed by the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints and contains 319 microfilms. A search of the web page
www.familyhistory.org
under "Place" for Tolna will have a designation for census records.
The Hungarian name is Vagyonosszeiras 1828.
The films list the villages in alphabetical order. Mucsi
is found on FHL microfilm #623141.
Mrs. Martha Remer Connor of Las Vegas, NV
created typed indexes of this census for over 20 Hungarian counties. Each book
contains a list of the names taken directly from the census. The books are
available directly from her and are also available on film from the Family
History Library. The one page index for Mucsi appears in Volume #4 Tolna - 285
pages - 25,461 names - 107 towns.
